In the mandatory course, essential content refers to students engaging with practice (artmaking, critical and historical studies), the conceptual framework and at least three of the four frames in making and interpreting art. In artmaking students explore a range of ideas and interests in the world, in at least two of the broad areas of 2D, 3D and/or 4D forms. The provision of opportunities to explore some sustained drawing and computer-based technologies is a requirement.
Students begin a visual arts diary as they make specific explorations of ideas and interests, formulate ideas for artworks and record relevant technical information. In critical and historical studies students are introduced to the conceptual framework and at least three of the four frames as a way to understand the visual arts.
