Local Schools, Local Decisions

In 2012 the NSW Government announced its Local Schools, Local Decisions (LSLD) reform for NSW public schools. This reform places students at the centre of school decision making. It gives principals and their school communities a greater say over how they allocate and use their available resources to best meet the needs of their students. 2015 Activity Week

Activity Week starts on December 14th until December 16th, 2015. Activity Week is a component of the school curriculum and students in all years are expected to participate. The aim of Activity Week is to provide an opportunity for students to broaden their educational and leisure experiences and to build positive relationships, in a less formal setting, between students and staff. Applications for student travel 2016

From 2 November 2015, a new online SSTS application process is being introduced for schools within the Opal network, coinciding with the introduction of the School Opal card. Schools outside the Opal network should continue to process the existing blue SSTS application forms and send them to the appropriate transport operators. Most parents, guardians and students won't need to apply for a school travel pass for 2016 if they have already been given a school student travel pass for the current year. Raphael Lee chosen for Artexpress 2015

Year 12 student Raphael Lee's final Body of work for Visual Arts has been selected to be part of the 2015 Artexpress exhibition. His work is a series of ceramic pieces that are a fusion of John Brack's "Collins St at 5:30" and the playground at Bowral High. Share the Dignity

Share the Dignity is an organisation that asks for donations focusing on girls and women. The year 8 girls Mrs Karakasch-Hawker has been working with this term are collecting hygiene items for girls and women in need. Anala opens in Mittagong

Anala is about supporting individuals and their families with a variety of programs. Coming up they are running some FREE workshops for Parents of children with a disability about preparing for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS is a new federally funded program which will be rolling out in this region in July 2016. The Smith Cup Returns to Bowral High! After six long years students and staff at Bowral High School have reclaimed the historical Smith Cup. 2016 school funding allocations

All NSW public schools are currently being advised of their 2016 Resource Allocation Model (RAM) funding. RAM distributes funding based on individual needs of students and schools, and gives schools greater flexibility to make financial decisions. The way schools use their RAM funding will vary based on local needs. Some support will be for the entire school, and some will be for particular groups of students or individual students. More than 80 Year 7 students attended the Speak Act Lead Camps at Wooglemai EEC on August 26-28. The camp launched our 40DayKP (Kindness Project) by constructing 7 Water Filtration Units that will be sent to Uganda in Africa as part of the Waterworks Program. New Payment Method Goes Live on July 24th

As of 24th July 2015 it will be possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. In the recent school holidays, Year 12 student, Liam Cassidy, was selected to represent NSW Combined High Schools at the Australian Schoolboy Rugby League Championships held at Wollongong. Performance For Year 7 Music Classes

On Friday 5th June, the Sydney Youth Orchestra will be performing for our Year 7 students in BHS Hall during period 4. This orchestra consists of young players from 11 – 25 years of age and the performers will also demonstrate some of the instruments so students can hear first- hand, what they sound like. The orchestra is on tour to the Riverina region and has been able to stop in on their way through to Wagga Wagga to visit our school. This is the new name for the Performing Arts Night. We are aiming to raise a substantial amount of money for the Nepalese people following the devastating earthquakes. Updated Application for Leave Procedures

The NSW Department of Education and Communities has introduced new procedures outlining the responsibilities for student leave and exemptions. These apply to all NSW government schools excluding pre-schools. Significant changes include the removal of exemption for travel and holidays outside of the vacation period: the introduction of a certificate of extended leave for travel outside of vacation periods; removal of the 15 day limit on leave and guidance on what constitutes unsatisfactory attendance. Year 7 Camp

All Year 7 will be heading out to Cataract Scout Park at 9am on Wednesday 18th February and returning at 3.20pm on Friday 20th February. Further Details: Accommodation - Students are staying in their own tents in groups of up to four. One student in the group must provide the tent!!
