School Uniform

School uniform

Uniform

The Bowral High School community believes that the wearing of school uniform fosters pride in the school, assists in the development and maintenance of tone and good conduct, and ensures a sense of equality irrespective of a student's personal circumstances. School uniform also helps to increase security for students travelling to and from school and allows staff to identify quickly anyone trespassing on school property. The wearing of uniform is, therefore, a safety and welfare matter. Students should also understand that the development of skills in personal neatness, appearance, presentation and self-discipline is an important learning experience and is a highly valued attribute in the workplace. This policy has been developed by students, P&C and staff and is endorsed by the NSW Department of Education and Communities. The wearing of school uniform is a parent's responsibility, not a student's choice.

School Uniform Procedures

Students at Bowral High School are expected to wear uniform to school every day.

The uniform is described in the student school planner.

Wednesday is Bowral High School's sports day and all students are permitted to wear the FULL correct PE uniform the WHOLE DAY. Students not wearing full PE uniform are expected to wear FULL school uniform. Students MUST bring appropriate equipment and footwear for elective subjects and technology mandatory. RABEN footwear is NOT permitted, only joggers or lace up plain canvas shoes are acceptable forms of sports shoes.

If a student is unable to wear uniform on a particular day they should bring a note from a parent or guardian to their roll teacher. The roll teacher will sign on the uniform page in the student planner.

Students who will be unable to wear uniform for an extended period of time (5 or more days) need to bring a note to the Head Teacher Welfare. The Head Teacher Welfare will sign in the student planner indicating the period of time the student will not be wearing uniform.

Uniform will be checked each day in roll call by the roll teacher. Students who are not wearing correct uniform will have their diaries signed with ‘note' or ‘no note'.

Students who do not follow uniform policy and procedures will be referred to the Head Teacher responsible for their Roll Group. The Head Teacher will counsel the student and, as needed, contact a parent or guardian to discuss school policy. Families suffering hardship may apply for assistance to help in meeting the cost of uniform.

All students are expected to wear full school uniform on excursions or when representing the school.
